Washington Park Through Our Own Eyes is a community art project featuring narratives of Washington Park community members. South Side in Focus worked in partnership with Chicago Youth Programs to collect and produce photography, oral narratives, and video depicting how CYP teens and parents experience their community.
We held the exhibit at Currency Exchange Cafe (right next to the Garfield Green Line stop), where people could explore, discuss, and appreciate these narratives. This multi-media art installation featured video by CYP participant and exhibit creator Chante Platt, interview audio, full printed interview transcripts, photos taken by participants, and selected quotes. We also had a "Memory Map" where guests and an interactive section for photographs from all guests. We asked guests to contribute to the collective narratives through these interactive dimensions of the installation.
